Summer Skin Care

Reading the ingredients list of your favourite lotions and potions can be a harrowing experience – if you can’t pronounce it, should you really be putting it on your skin?

An easy way to drop the drama is to make your own products using natural, wholesome ingredients. So in this post we’re going to share with you our favourite recipes that only require a few Star Child products and some ingredients your probably already have in your kitchen. And yes, we use them ourselves!

Facial Scrub

You will need:

  • Half a teaspoon of honey
  • A quarter teaspoon of bicarbonate of soda
  • Four drops of jojoba oil (Optional: one drop of either rose or patchouli oil)

What to do:
Mix all the ingredients thoroughly. Wash your face with warm water and then apply your honey scrub to your skin. Use gentle, circular movements and avoid contact with your eyes. Rinse with cool water. Voila! Peachy soft skin.
Tip: you can use this scrub on your chest and neck, too!

Facial Toner

You will need:

  • A bottle of rosewater
  • A teaspoon of glycerine

What to do:
Pour the glycerine into the bottle of rosewater. Shake thoroughly. After you have washed your face, pour some rosewater mix onto a cotton wool ball and apply to your clean skin. You’ll feel and smell amazing.

Sugar Body Scrub

You will need:

  • One tablespoon of brown sugar (or any sugar, as long as it’s chunky)
  • Two tablespoons of olive oil
  • Three drops of bergamot essential oil (no bergamot oil? Use lemon zest instead)

What to do:
Mix thoroughly. To use: Whilst in the shower, step out from under the water and use the sugar scrub all over. Rinse thoroughly, but be aware there will be a very small amount of oil left on your skin after that will act as a moisturiser.

Tip: wipe down the bath tub with shampoo afterwards to prevent slips and accidents.

Argan Oil Hair Mask (AKA Moroccan Oil)

Do you spend a fortune on Moroccan Oil at salons? Then this recipe is for you!

What you need:

  • Two teaspoons of argan oil
  • Four teaspoons of olive oil (extra virgin, preferably)
  • Two teaspoons of honey
  • Two teaspoons of apple cider vinegar
  • Four teaspoons of epsom salts
  • Three or four drops of your favourite essential oil (if you suffer from thinning hair, we recommend rosemary)

What to do:
Blend the ingredients thoroughly and apply to your hair and scalp. Leave for about half an hour, then wash out.
Tip: rub the shampoo into your hair before you get your hair wet; this will help remove excess oil.
