The Secrets of Pilgrimage

Written by Imam Al Ghazali, 450-505AH (1058-1111AD) who was one of the greatest Muslim thinkers. His greatest work, The Revival of the Religious Sciences, is the definitive work on Islamic beliefs.

This small book is the 8th in a series of short, classical works by Muslim scholars.
Few books on Hajj guide readers to consider the subject beyond the rituals and few act as a guide to the substance, purpose and philosophy of the Hajj.

The book gives guidance on topics such as:

  • The purchase of the 2 Ihram garments for men.
  • The Blessings of Pilgrimage.
  • The validity of one’s Pilgrimage.
  • The entrance into Mecca.
  • The first glimpse of the Ka’aba.
  • At every point, the Du’a (Supplications) to be said in a clear English translation.

This is an excellent book to be read by anyone contemplating Hajj, or for those who wish to receive an
understanding of the inner work of the Heart which accompanies the physical rites and practices.

A book to prepare and accompany the Pilgrim on his or her journey of a lifetime.

  • Short biography of Imam Al Ghazali.
  • Introduction.
  • The merit of Pilgrimage.
  • The sequence of external acts from the start of the journey to the end.
  • Rites connected with the return from Pilgrimage.
  • Index.
  • Translated by Ibrahim Umar.
  • 163 pages.
  • Published by Islamic Book Trust, Kuala Lumpur.

Pilgrimage Ihram

ihramMen & boys:

  • During Pilgrimage/Hajj men are required to wear Ihram.
  • Ihram is two pieces of unsewn cloth, usually made of towelling.
  • These garments render all men equal regardless of their worldly status.

We stock both towelling and cloth Ihram.

Women & girls:

  • During Pilgrimage women and girls are not required to wear Ihram specifically.
  • They are required to cover their heads and bodies in loose-fitting garments.
  • Many women choose to wear white cotton clothing (cool in the heat), with a large veil which reaches to the waist. Their faces and hands remain uncovered.

We stock boxed sets of dresses and head coverings in white.
