Hazrat Inayat Khan was born in 1882 in India. He was a great Mystic and musician who gave up his music to spread the ‘Message of Spiritual Liberty’ in the United States and Europe between 1910 and 1926. He died in New Delhi 1927.
‘Sufism means wisdom of the heart that is purified of egoism and dogmatism. It is the essence of all religions.’

Hazrat Inayat Khan : The Complete Sayings

  • The sayings represent ‘flashes of thought’ which came to him when listening to the daily problems of his pupils.
  • He would refer to these flashes as a representation of ‘Divine Consciousness’.
  • In offering us these thoughts, he is inviting us to share ‘the sanctuary of his soul’.
  • He regarded these thoughts as an emanation from ‘a soul on fire’.
  • He compared them to poetry or song.
  • This link with music is reflected in the titles of the sections in the book, for example: Gayan – Psalmody, Vadan – Instrumental Music, Tala – Arhythm.
